At long last I get to tie together my various creative pursuits in one journal entry: songwriting/music, writer/editor, and vineyard novice in Napa Valley. It’s October. It’s harvest. It’s fall. We made it past summer without local wildfires, devastating smoke storms, and slow moving heat bubbles! It’s time to celebrate.
So, listen to this song I wrote about harvest a few years ago. It was recorded for my EP, “Like Family” and is called I Want to Be Like Robert Mondavi.
It’s a drinking song, really. It’s the closest I could get to sounding like how a glass of Cabernet tastes to me. A nice deep glass you can stick your nose in and hear the voices of Chana and Mikaela, my vocalists, stretching out on either side of me like long rows of a vineyard. This is my personal mash up: music, vineyard, lyrics, wine. Enjoy.
And Happy Harvest everyone!

I want to be like Robert Mondavi
Spend sunny days with friends and family
And everywhere I see, to the west and to the east
The vineyards are lush and they’re green
I want to be like Robert Mondavi
Remind the world that it’s time for company
Enjoy a glass of wine with friends and family,
To be alive is to be thirsty
Oh how she gave him style and that Italian salesman’s smile
How Magritte oh how she ran that family
She gave him the time to sell, “Drink wine for your health”
To be alive is to be thirsty
I want to be like Robert Mondavi
Remind the world that it’s time for company
And everywhere I see, to the west and to the east
The vineyards are lush and they’re green
I want to be like Robert Mondavi
